Cornwall Blind Association - Improving the lives of visually impaired people

Caradon Press Release - January 2009

In line with Cornwall Blind Association's vision for a genuinely county-wide service, a co-ordinator for Caradon has been recently appointed to develop new services in East Cornwall.

Ali Noble started in her new role as the co-ordinator and is keen to enlist the support of volunteers to offer services in Torpoint, Saltash, Looe and Liskeard.

Reaching visually impaired people in all areas of the county has led to this initiative and Ali hopes to contact those with a range of sight conditions and ensure that they are aware of all the services available to them.

"It is an opportunity to build awareness of Cornwall Blind Association's Services and hopefully educate more people about sight loss issues", said Ali.

"Initially I will be available to meet potential clients in an informal way, sharing with them what help is available. My hope is that we can help empower them in day to day living as it is important to build confidence and make the most any support."

Information displays are currently circulating in libraries and community centres around Caradon with a permanent display based at Liskeard Hospital.

"Also from 11th March, I will be available each Wednesday afternoon between 12.30 and 3.30pm at the Liskerret Community Centre in Liskeard", said Ali.

"I will be available to meet with clients for a chat and will have a range of samples, literature and catalogues showing equipment aids which can help facilitate a more independent lifestyle".

Appointments can also be made for clients needing Benefits Advice, Advocacy, Support and Counselling.

Ali is especially keen to hear from anyone who can volunteer in the Caradon area in any way. If you have a specialist interest or hobby or are willing to accompany a visually impaired person to a leisure activity, then please contact Ali on 07791 483098
