Cornwall Challenge

Warm welcome for weary cyclists After two weeks of cycling endurance Joe Stinton, and his team of supportive cyclists, returned to cheers of support at Lands End from John O’Groats.

Cornwall Challenge

It was an emotional home-coming for Joe, who is totally blind, as it was the culmination of months of training and an arduous fortnight of cycling an average seven hours a day. The back-up team of men, from around Cornwall, set themselves this extraordinary challenge to raise money for Children's Hospice South West and Cornwall Blind Association.

When asked what were the hardest moments, Joe said:

"The toughest parts were the weather, it was pretty horrendous. We had to stop and take our shoes off to empty the water out of them."

Joe who lost his sight in his late 20s rode on the back of a tandem, he said:

"I love cycling, so it was enjoyable but more importantly I was doing it for two local charities that mean a lot to me personally."

Debbie Henshaw, Community Fundraiser from Cornwall Blind Association said:

"The men did a fantastic job, sometimes in terrible weather, just so they can raise much needed money for Cornwall Blind Association's For Sight Appeal. It would be such an encouragement to them if local people supported them by giving something however small."

<  As Cornwall Blind Association's For Sight Appeal is a local cause, all money raised by the ‘Challenge Cornwall' ride will stay in the County and benefit the local community."
