Cornwall Blind Association - Improving the lives of visually impaired people

Get your leathers on and Ride for Sight for the Cornwall Blind Association!

The Cornwall Blind Association is inviting motorcyclists all over Cornwall to take part in a group ride-out to raise money for their For Sight Appeal on Sunday 27 June.

Local bike dealership, Damerells, are offering visually impaired adults the rare opportunity to ride pillion on the latest Yamaha cruiser bike. With a personal advanced instructor, protective clothing and intercom provided, it’s a chance to experience life on two wheels.

The motorcycle ride departs from Garras Wharf, Truro at 10.00am on Sunday 27 June. With a wake up coffee supplied from Starbucks, the bikes (and their owners!) set off for a leisurely tour of 50 miles, finishing at Damerells motorcycle showroom at Indian Queens.

Volunteer fundraiser and organiser, Del Wilton, said: “This event provides bikers with the opportunity to raise awareness of the impact of blindness or impaired vision. It can happen to anyone, of any age, at any time.

“Our motorcycling community can help visually impaired people all over Cornwall lead more independent lives – register now to take part – and to make a difference”.

Damerells will be open to bikers and those wishing to take part are encouraged to register before the event to take advantage of a discount offer from Damerells, which will only be valid on production of a registration card on the day.

The For Sight Appeal aims to raise £500,000.00 of voluntary funds each year until 2014. This will enable the Cornwall Blind Association to continue delivering and expanding their services.

Participants are requested to ride safely and obey all road markings and speed limits, as the route will be patrolled by marked and unmarked Police vehicles.'

Places for the visually impaired pillion bike sessions are limited and anyone with a visual impairment who is keen to take part is advised to contact the Sight Centre in Truro on 01872 266709.
