In line with Cornwall Blind Association’s vision for a genuinely county-wide service, a new co-ordinator for Penwith, Linda Petzing has been appointed. Her role is to build on all the existing activities for visually impaired people in the area after the retirement of her predecessor Heather Collings.
Linda is looking forward to visiting different groups associated to the charity, she said:
"Initially I will be available to meet potential clients in an informal way, sharing with them what help, support and free services are available to those with sight loss."
She is also keen to enlist the support of volunteers to help reach out to visually impaired people with a range of sight conditions in the community.
"Part of my role is to ensure that those experiencing sight loss are aware of all the free services available to them through Cornwall Blind Association," she said,
"And I would love to hear from those living in Penwith who can spare a few hours a week to offer an interest, skill or talent to share with others."
Cornwall Blind Association is the only local charity which is dedicated to improving the lives of visually impaired people living in Cornwall. The charity is independent of any national charities and relies on the generosity of local people and organisations for funding and volunteers.
The charity is founded on a belief that life need not stop because of sight loss. The hope is for visually impaired people to gain greater independence and a better quality of everyday life.
The charity provides a range of services including Low Vision assessments, Access Technology, Counselling, Transport, Talking Support and Befriending.
Chief Executive, Martin Pallett, said: "We are delighted Linda has joined our team as she has already demonstrated enthusiasm for the role the Sight Centre in Penzance".
