Ride for Sight a roaring success for the Cornwall Blind Association

One hundred and thirty motorcyclists from Cornwall and across the South West turned out on Sunday (27 June) for a ride-out in support of the Cornwall Blind Association.

The bikers enjoyed riding in glorious sunshine on a scenic route through villages and beach resorts along the North Cornwall coast, finishing at Damerells motorcycle dealership, Indian Queens.

Volunteer fundraiser Del Wilton said, :”I am pleased to have raised over £700 for the Sight Appeal in order that the Truro Sight Centre can sustain essential services for visually impaired people in our County.

“I am very grateful to our sponsors who supported this event, and a huge thank you to the First and Last Motorcycle Club for providing marshals. All of the bikers who took part rode safely and are a credit to the motorcycling community.”

Terri Rosanu, Chair of the Cornwall Blind Association took up the offer of riding pillion with an instructor at Damerells, she said:” The opportunity for blind people like myself to ride on the back of a bike was tremendous, a fantastic experience and one that I would not have had the chance to do if it was not for the Ride for Sight event.

“I would like to say a massive thank you to Del, the fantastic volunteers involved in this event, and the motorcyclists who took part for raising the money and importantly, the awareness of the Cornwall Blind Association in the County.”

Thanks from the Cornwall Blind Association go to Damerells Motorcycles and their instructors for their help in organising the event, Starbucks for providing beverages on the day and the local emergency services for their support.

The money raised will go towards the For Sight Appeal which aims to raise £500,000.00 of voluntary funds each year until 2014. This will enable the Cornwall Blind Association to continue delivering and expanding their services towards helping blind and visually impaired people.
