Cornwall Blind Association is calling for local people to sign up and take part in a massive sponsored walk being held on 19 March 2011.

The Stride For Sight sponsored walk is Cornwall Blind Association's biggest event yet and the charity hopes to capture the imagination of the Cornish as they cross coast to coast from Portreath to Devoran along the Mineral Tramway Trail. As walkers stride past the disused mines, they will be reminded of the heritage of the Charity which started in 1856 to help workers that had been blinded in the mines.

The walk has been broken down into sections for those wishing to show their support and take part without going the whole distance. You can choose between two miles, five miles, eight and a half miles and 11 miles.

Terri Rosnau, Chair of Cornwall Blind Association, who herself is blind, says: "This is a huge opportunity for Cornish people to get involved with a charity that has been around for a long time quietly changing people's lives. Next year however on 19 March 2011, we are taking the plunge and asking the whole County to get involved."

"Support us by signing up to walk the Stride For Sight and be the person that makes a difference to a visually impaired person's life."

The walk is intended for all ages and all levels of fitness! Children, parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and friends, whether you are representing a business, part of a community group or a member of a rambling, walking or running club everyone is welcome - we are calling for everyone to Be Bright For Sight in 2011.

All you need to do is pay the registration fee which is £15 for adults and £5 for children under 16.  We are asking everyone to try and raise a minimum of £85 sponsorship - every contribution is important so try to raise as much as you can and don't forget that there is a prize for the person who raises the most by the 19th March.

You can either enter on-line by clicking here or if you do not have an email address or you are entering more than one walker then print off the entry form and send it back to us with your registration fee and we will send you a fundraising pack and sponsorship forms.

If you would like to volunteer to help on the day - we have many different roles for people to take on to help us make this event a huge success. Just click here for details on volunteering roles for Stride For Sight.

If you need any more information or require help completing the forms, please call Nel on 01872 266712.
