HOLIDAYS. (back to top) We run a young peoples activity holiday at an accredited outdoors activity centre most years. Activities undertaken include abseiling and kayaking and everyone has a fun time. A holiday for adults is also usually run most years at a suitable hotel in an attractive setting outside Cornwall. Clients are charged for these holidays, which are subsidised with the Association providing staff to organise and run them together with volunteers

HOSPITAL INFORMATION DESKS. (back to top) A long established Outpost is based at the St Austell Community hospital outpatients department to provide advice, information about other services as well as support to ophthalmic patients, their friends and relatives. A similar services have been established at Bodmin, Redruth, and Bude Stratton Hospitals.

TALKING BOOKS. (back to top) The Association acts as agents for the RNIB providing this important service locally to visually impaired people.A CD player enables the user to choose from a huge range of talking books, which can be listened to at home and delivered to your door.

Quality of Life Fund. (back to top)   The Association has a small and limited fund which can make payments to visually impaired people and their families who are in need. Potential applicants should call on their own resources if they possibly can afford to as charitable funds are limited. Applications should be sent in writing or made by telephone and up to a maximum of £100 can be requested. An application for anything that might help to make a substantial improvement to a person’s life can be considered. It could for example be to help purchase a piece of equipment or to undertake an activity for a period. The request needs to be directly related to someone’s experience of sight loss. Applicants need to show how their request would help to improve the quality of their life and need to be in receipt of state benefits or on low income which means having savings of below £3000. Applications are carefully considered by the Chief Executive who is responsible for assessing them which may only be made if sufficient funds remain in the budget at the time of application.
