Attendance Allowance

To receive this benefit your must

  • be aged 65 or over
  • have a disability which affects your ability to self care
  • satisfy the residency and presence test
  • or have a terminal illness

AA is not taxable or an income related benefit and it can actually increase other benefits that you receive.  The questions on the claim form ask about your ability to get in and out of bed, wash or bathe, get dressed, communiate etc.  You can receive AA even if you live alone.

AA has two elements.

The lower rate is payable at £49.30pw if you have difficulties or need help throughout the day or night.  The higher rate is payable at £73.60pw if you have difficulties or need help throughout the day and night.
