Cornwall Blind Association - Improving the lives of visually impaired people

Employment and Support Allowance

ESA is a benefit paid to those people whose ability to work is limited by illness or disability. It has two components, contributory ESA and income related ESA. You can receive either one or both.

You are entitled to ESA if you have a ‘limited capability for work'. This is determined by the ‘work capability assessment'. You will be placed in either the ‘support group' or the ‘work related group'. The group will dictate the amount of ESA you will receive.
