Cornwall Blind association act as a link with at least 29 clubs for visually impaired people that are located across the county.
The clubs include social clubs and sporting/activity clubs that are run by Volunteer Leaders and Club Helpers. Attendance to the clubs is very often the highlight of the week or month for visually impaired people who look forward to meeting up with each other on a regular basis.
We do recognise the fact that there are visually impaired people living in isolation who would benefit from a volunteer befriender to help with reading, sorting out junk mail or just a chat over a cuppa.
If what you have just read appeals to you and you feel you could offer an hour once in a while on a regular/flexible basis, please contact us for an enrolment form and join all the other volunteers who have themselves benefited from giving of their time.
Transport is a problem for many in our county but for those with a sight loss the difficulty of getting around under their own steam can be much greater. The Cornwall Blind Association can arrange subsidised transport for visually impaired people to attend medical appointments and activity clubs, and free transport for a visit to the Truro Sight Centre where people are unable to make their own arrangements with family and friends.
We are always looking for volunteers for driving. Mileage and out of pocket expenses are paid. All new volunteers are checked through the Criminal Records Bureau before they are taken on and are thoroughly trained in visual imapirment issues and the duties of the role they are undertaking.Please contact the Truro Sight Centre in Truro if you can spare some time for this type of voluntary work.
